This was the type species for the genus Micranthocereus erected by Backeberg.
This is a very floriferous cactus that never fails to flower at Christmas time in the northern hemisphere.
This species is easily propagated via cuttings. 6" (approx.) stem tip cuttings rooted in late spring to early summer will produce flowers and fruit the following winter in the northern hemisphere.
